Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water | Review

Today I finally decided to write a short review about the Garnier Micellar water, that many girls consider as a dupe of the Bioderma cleanser.
I've been using this product for about a month or so now and I think it is about time to let you know what I, personally think about it.

What information is given about the product:
*good for sensitive skin
* hypoallergenic
* no perfume
* removes make-up, cleanses, soothes
* 200 uses

1) As you can see, I've used nearly half of the bottle and it says that it lasts for 200 uses. I've probably not even used it 40 times yet and it doesn't really look as if I could use it for 160 more uses. Of course, I know that this number is just an average number, but still, I think that it could be used for about 100 times, more than 200 to be honest.
If I use it, then I use two small cotton pads, so I also don't use too much of the cleanser itself. It is strong, because one cotton pad takes off the make up of half of my face, which is nice.

2) After I've taken off all the make-up from my face, my skin suddenly starts to smell like mould on the walls. It really makes me freak out because it is said to have no perfume, but I'd prefer perfume than the smell of wet, mouldy walls on my face. I have no idea if it is just me, or if other girls also have this problem with this cleanser, but it surely makes me not too happy. When you smell the cleanser itself it really has no smell, but after I've used it, I can smell it so much!

3) This cleanser costs about 4 pounds and you can get them for 3 if they are on offer for example at ASDA. So this is what I did, I was shopping once and it was there on sale for 3 pounds so I decided to try it as I needed a new cleanser any ways.
Buying this product, you get 400 ml for about 4 pounds.
The Bioderma cleanser costs about 10 pounds per 200 ml, which is only have the size.
So, if you compare the prizes and what you get for them, the Garnier cleanser is surely a bargain if you can't afford Bioderma.
But, if I could, I would surely choose the Bioderma Sebium cleanser as it works just perfectly with my skin and I would repurchase it for ever.

I will see what else I'll find over the next weeks in drugstores because this cleanser makes me really confused and I would not really like to repurchase it, unless I'd have no other choice.

Have you tried this cleanser too? If yes, please let me know about the smell, if it is just me, or if it really leaves that bad mouldy smell on your skin!

And if you didn't see our latest video, here it is!

    1. Well, I am totally unable to study at night. I can try but I won't remember anything. For this reason, I prefer sleeping at night, to be able to concentrate during the day, so that I could pick up as much as possible. I am also very, very bad at remembering a lot of information over a short time. My friends always used to study for exams just two or three days before, whereas I always started at least a week before. I always had a plan of what I'm going to revise which day. I never revised exaactly what was written in books or what the teachers told us to write down. I wrote summaries and decided to learn them to not lose useful time. And I would revise for as long as I'd know what I needed to know. When I was still in school, my mum always told me to go to bed at 10pm so that I could get enough sleep, but over the last year of school, I went to bed at 11 or a bit later. Very often I came home from school at about 3pm, totally exhausted, had a 20 minute nap and could study revising.
      Doing breaks while studying is also important, I used to watch Youtube videos when I needed a break.
      So, to me sleep is very important for concentration. This would be probably my best tip, get as much sleep as you need and you will have more energy to study, and better results! :)

    2. I have the exact same problem with this product. Doesn't seem to have a smell in the bottle. But as soon as I finish using it on my skin I start smelling mold or mildew. I thought I was imagining it at first. BUT every time I use this product IT'S THE SAME NASTY SMELL!

  2. Omg I totally agree with you on the smell! I just got this today, and it doesn't seem to have a fragrance but as soon as I touch the cotton pad of product onto my skin that has makeup, I smell this horrendous smell. It's awful. But I've never heard anyone else complain of it so I thought it was just me..

    1. Wow! Finally someone who has the same problem! I still use it because I just want to empty the bottle but I absolutely hate the smell! My aunt suggested that it is probably the reaction of the water with my skin if so many other girls are happy with it!

    2. I've just found this post from googling this exact thing! It smells disgusting about a minute after I've used it - feels like my face is covered in mould! Bottle and pad smell fine though, I was worried it was capturing/activating mould spores or something but I really have no idea - especially if other people have noticed the same. I might write to them!

    3. It is so annoying, right? I am trying to empty my current bottle of it and to start using a different version of it, which I showed here: http://livialinette.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/superdrug-beauty-haul-new-in.html . I really hope this one will be better, but we'll see!

    4. I'm not sure how old this post it but... FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SMELLS THE MOULD. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING INSANE! x

    5. I use a similar product- micellar water made by the brand 'Simple.' Before I use it there is no smell, but after I use it, it smells like honey! I did not get a moldy smell like some people here are describing.

    6. Ok so I know this is a super old Post, but I just came across it because a few days ago, I bought the Garnier micellar water wipes, and it doesn't smell like anything at first. After I wipe my face with it though, OMG THE SMELL!!! It seriously has a musty smell like mold or something, and it's very unsettling. I can smell it right under my nose, as I just cleaned it with this. I can also smell it on my hand n omg it's horrible! It works very well, but my gosh, I gotta always put the Garnier face moisturizer on afterwards to cover up the stench!

  3. Mine smells like that too! Was beginning to think I had a mouldy bedroom!

  4. Haha crazy! I was just googling the same thing ab the smell! I have face wipes too by Simple with the micellar water and the smell of the wipes make me want to gag.

  5. I would liken the smell to potting soil. But only for about a minute as it evaporates from my skin, and then the smell is gone.

  6. I smell it too! I have been using the Simple micellar water, and it smells like pond water to me. I came upon this site via a search for "micellar water smells bad" because I thought something was wrong with my skin or something.

  7. Does anyone know WHY does it smell like that? I bought La Roche Posay micellar water recently and it smells the same on my skin!

  8. Hi, I found your post after googling about the smell of mold. I normally use the blue one which smells nice and works wonderfully. But this one leaves my face tacky and mouldy smelling as well.😑

    1. I don't know but it is really weird. Recently I got a travel version of this micellar water because there was no other one I could choose and the smell is still the same! Seems like there is a specific reaction to certain skin types

  10. Yes! I just came across this googling the smell! I thought I was crazy! But it goes away after a few minutes. It's been great for my skin so I'll forgive the minutes of nastiness.

  16. I ordered from Amazon, half bottle spilled upon trip here. So I thought it was old or had gone bad.

  17. I agree with the smell. After using, I smell mold.

  18. I contacted the company after this happened to me and all they will say is that I'm having a reaction. I stopped using it (months ago) and kept it so I can try again later. But I tried it on everyone's face here at my house and the back of my hands, no mold smell. I do have malessazia/pityrosporum on my face. I wonder of that is the cause...

  19. I would love to know the answer to why it smells like this!! So mysterious!!

  21. Thank goodness I've found this post. I'm not losing my mind. Musty smell only on my face. No smell in bottle or when used on my hand. Pathetic explanation from manufacturer for sure. I thot it was my cotton pads...not !

    1. Nope you're not losing your mind and their response is ridiculous. However... I did find out after commenting here that I have malessazia/pityrosporum. So I'm curious if anyone else does. It's fungal so definitely a possibility that it's what's causing the chemical reaction. Mine is caused by too many antibiotics (I have chronic infections).

  22. Anyone else have pityrosporum/malessazia/fungal acne? Found out that I do and I wonder if that's what causes the chemical reaction.
